West Beach Surf Life Saving Club Nippers

Children aged 5–13 can build surf awareness, water-safety skills and confidence through beach and water activities at West Beach. Regular sessions are held on Saturdays from late October to the end of March, subject to conditions and risk assessment. Each child completes a swim and float evaluation, and a parent or designated guardian must stay for the session. Families wanting to test the waters first can ask about the two-session Come and Try option, available from a child’s fifth birthday.

Henley Surf Life Saving Club Nippers

Based on the Henley Beach foreshore, this program introduces children aged 5–13 to surf lifesaving through beach games, surf skills and water-safety education. Contact the club before attending to confirm current enrolment and session arrangements.

YMCA Gymnastics Glengowrie

Nearby in Glengowrie, YMCA Gymnastics provides choices from KinderGym and MiniGym through to recreational, competition and inclusion gymnastics. Charles Sturt Libraries early literacy programs

Free weekly term-time sessions give babies and young children opportunities to enjoy language, movement and shared reading with their carers. Babytime runs at Ngutungka Henley on Fridays without bookings, while the wider program includes Toddlertime, Mini Movers and Storytime. For children aged 3–5, Read and Create is offered at Ngutungka West Lakes and Findon Library, also without bookings.

West Torrens Library children’s programs

Families can travel to nearby Hilton for Baby Time from birth to 18 months, Toddler Time from 18 months and Story Time for ages 3–5. Caregivers attend with children, and bookings are not required for these sessions. Blocks, Books & Babies serves ages 0–4 and includes a low-light, low-noise quiet hour. Relationships Australia SA – Children + Parenting Support

Parents and caregivers raising children in western Adelaide can access free groups, individual sessions and family sessions. Support may be delivered through outreach, at school, in person or by telehealth. Families can discuss concerns such as children’s behaviour, parent–child connection, school transitions and conflict at home. Western enquiries and referrals go through the service team.

Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS)

CaFHS provides free health and development checks for South Australian children from birth to five years, including families along the Adelaide Coast. Checks can cover growth, feeding, sleep, development, social and emotional wellbeing, and parenting support. No referral is needed; families can book directly by calling the South Australian Government booking line on 1300 733 606.

MyTime

These free, facilitated peer-support groups are for parents and family carers of children under 18 with disability, developmental delay or a chronic medical condition. Local-group matching is available across South Australia, and eligibility may sometimes extend to families without a formal diagnosis. Children below school age may attend and engage with a play helper nearby, but their parent or carer remains responsible for them.

KWY Building Up Bubs

This free metropolitan Adelaide program provides child-development screening for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children up to and including age five who have not had a recent screening. Families, community members, government and non-government organisations, or KWY staff may make a referral. The BuBs team contacts the family afterwards to arrange screening.

KWY Walking Together: Intensive Family Support

Operating in the cities of Charles Sturt and West Torrens, this intensive service supports families with children from birth to 18 who have been identified through the child-protection process. Assistance may include parent education, counselling, specialist counselling for children and young people, family and domestic violence support, brokerage and warm referrals. Access is only through a Department of Human Services referral; outside referrals are not accepted.
